Background verification services using criminal, financial and other data to compile the history of person/s is used widely within the work structure commercially and also in the private sector. Also referred to as vetting, employers are leaning toward using every tool available to select the best candidate for the job.

Crimchecks form part of this process of screening a person’s profile. We use the Ideco Afiswitch Digital Scanner System which allows us to come to the client should this be required to do the checks. We are a licenced user of the Ideco Afiswitch digital Scanner. Ideco Ltd. and the SAPS have since 2006 had an agreement to provide a service to do the checks.

Following the scan of the person’s fingerprints this is sent digitally to the SAPS database for checking. Results are received within 48 Hours. A report is sent to the client.

Complementing the screening process:

As a polygraph examiner we often come across prospective applicants not being truthful concerning their past life. Common traits we see in the interviewing process include lying on their CV, about previous employment, dismissals or disciplinary action taken against them. Most importantly the aspect of crime is not touched.

We always encourage employers to incorporate a crimcheck with a pre- employment polygraph as a holistic approach to doing a proper check of the persons past. The damage done by dishonesty in the workplace could have a huge impact on the company and its future.

It also leads to the use of company time and recourses when it comes to the disciplinary action that needs to happen subsequently. As per the costing several other checks are also available including ITC checks into a person’s financial records to see if they are not blacklisted. We find that those who are over indebted sometimes are a higher risk factor to the company.
